The German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, visited our Codex and Project partner, AQT, accompanied by his Austrian counterpart, President Alexander Van der Bellen, and the Tyrol Governor, Anton Mattle. The focus of the visit was the ambitious vision, ‘Europe must and can reinvent itself!’

Thomas Monz, a member of our Codex Group, and his team have developed and built quantum computers in Austria under the name AQT. Founded in 2018 by Rainer Blatt, Thomas Monz and Prof. Peter Zoller, AQT specialises in quantum information processing. Drawing on decades of experience in experimental and theoretical quantum information processing, AQT has developed and built quantum computers in Austria. Through its commitment to research and development, AQT has become a true model of innovation and excellence in Europe. AQT already enables its customers to accelerate their research using quantum instruments, which they can conveniently access via the cloud.

Since 2021, AQT has been based at the Green Energy Centre Europe alongside FEN Systems and FEN Research. In this environment, AQT has collaborated with its Codex partner, FEN Research (the consortium leader), and the universities of Florence (Italy) and Catalunya (Spain) on the EU REINFORCE project (Renewable Energy Integration for Flexibility, Optimal Management and Resilience in Energy Communities and the Built Environment). The project’s scientific objectives are to explore the potential of quantum computing to create an open-source Multi Energy System Simulator (MESS) tool that balances the ecological (resource), social (demand) and economic (demand coverage) subsystems.

“Through this project, Innsbruck has also become a hub for exploring and establishing new approaches to systemic research on energy transition processes. The aim is to rebuild the energy system to achieve climate neutrality and autonomy, and build a bridge to a sustainable, green future. This also contributes to the vision that Europe can and must reinvent itself!”
