As Codex Partner of the Green Energy Center Europe, FEN Research presented the HySelect concept during Sustainability Week 2025 at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein. The project demonstrates how solar heat and hydrogen can be combined in a scalable industrial process using the Hybrid Sulphur Cycle (HySC) – turning regional renewable heat into locally produced hydrogen for industry, logistics and heat supply.
From the perspective of the GEC Living Lab, HySelect is more than a research project, it is a system prototype:
- It shows how regional solar heat → hydrogen → industrial demand can become a new energy value chain.
- It delivers real operational data for scaling and investment decisions.
- It extends hydrogen use beyond mobility toward industrial heat and production processes.
- It strengthens the Tirol 2050 strategy: reducing imports, increasing resilience and enabling EU-level hydrogen integration.
Why it matters
HySelect opens the door to a new logic:
Hydrogen is not only a fuel for vehicles – it can replace fossil heat in industry and enable real energy autonomy.
This aligns with the Codex principle of “Resource → Demand → Coverage of Demand → Scalable System”, and marks another practical step on the bridge from ideas to real solutions.
